The first five minutes
Four checks that resolve most reports. Run them in order before reading further.
Run the quick checklist
- Confirm Screen Time access. Open
Settings → Screen Time → Apps with Screen Time Accessand make sure BlocTime is listed and toggled on. - Confirm Screen Time itself is on. If Screen Time is off at the system level, no blocking app on iOS can shield anything.
- Force-quit and reopen BlocTime. Swipe up from the bottom, flick BlocTime away, then open it again.
- Restart the iPhone. Genuinely fixes stuck shields more often than anything else, because it reloads the system extension.
Deleting the app is the last resort, not the first. Reinstalling wipes your session history, stats, and saved plans — none of that is stored on our servers, so it can't be restored.
App blocking
BlocTime blocks through Apple's Screen Time framework, so nearly every blocking issue is a permission issue.
A session is running but my apps still open
- Check that BlocTime is on under
Settings → Screen Time → Apps with Screen Time Access. - Open BlocTime → Select Apps and confirm the apps you expect are actually ticked. Selections don't carry over between sessions unless you save them.
- Watch for category vs. app. Ticking a category like Social blocks apps Apple classifies that way — an app may sit in a different category than you'd guess. Tick it individually to be sure.
- End the session, restart your iPhone, and start a fresh one.
Safari, Messages, Phone, and Settings behave differently from third-party apps by Apple's design, and emergency calling is never blocked.
My apps are still blocked after the session ended
- Open BlocTime and check the Focus tab — if a session is still shown as active, tap End Session.
- Force-quit BlocTime and reopen it. The shield lifts when the extension next runs.
- Restart your iPhone.
- If it persists, toggle BlocTime off and back on under
Settings → Screen Time → Apps with Screen Time Access. This clears any shield BlocTime has set.
Changing your device's date or time while a session is running can confuse the end time. Set time back to automatic under Settings → General → Date & Time.
BlocTime is asking for Screen Time permission again
iOS re-prompts after major updates, restores from backup, or if the permission was revoked in Settings. Tap Allow — nothing is lost. If the prompt won't appear at all, restart the device, then open BlocTime and try starting a session; the request comes from iOS, not from us.
Can someone get around a bloc?
Yes, with effort — any screen-time tool on iOS can be worked around by revoking permission or deleting the app. BlocTime raises the friction, it doesn't build a wall. If you want it harder to undo, set a Screen Time passcode in Settings → Screen Time that isn't the one you use to unlock your phone.
Does BlocTime work on iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch?
BlocTime is an iPhone app today. Blocking applies to the device it's installed on, so apps stay open on your other devices. iPad support is on the roadmap.
AI Project Planner
The planner is the one feature that needs a network connection.
The planner spins, times out, or shows an error
- Check your connection. On weak signal, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular and try again.
- Turn off Low Power Mode, which can suspend the request in the background.
- Stay on the planning screen while it works. Leaving the app mid-request can cancel it.
- Shorten your goal. Very long descriptions take longer and are likelier to time out.
- Wait a minute and retry — the AI service occasionally rate-limits at busy times.
If it fails repeatedly, email us the exact goal text you entered and we'll reproduce it.
The plan it generated doesn't fit my project
Be concrete about the finish line and the constraint. "Research culturally responsive teaching posts" gives the model less to work with than "Draft and schedule 8 Instagram posts on culturally responsive teaching, done by Friday, about 2 hours a day."
Tap Cancel on the review screen to discard and try a new description — nothing saves until you tap Create. Edit tasks and times after creating, too; the plan is a starting point, and the estimates are guesses.
Where do my plans go, and can I get one back?
Plans are stored on your iPhone in BlocTime, not on a server. Deleting a plan is permanent, and deleting the app removes them all. We have no copy to restore.
Is what I type sent somewhere?
Your goal text and the session settings go to our AI provider to generate the plan, and nothing else does — not your blocked apps, session history, or calendar. Details are in the Privacy Policy. Skip the feature and nothing leaves your device.
Calendar
Calendar access is optional and used to place sessions around what you already have booked.
My events don't show up
- Grant access under
Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars → BlocTime. If iOS offered "Full Access" and "Add Only," BlocTime needs Full Access to read events. - Check the calendar is enabled on the device:
Settings → Apps → Calendar → Accounts, and that the specific calendar is ticked in the Calendar app under Calendars. - Open the Calendar app once and pull to refresh — Google and Outlook calendars sync through iOS, not through us.
- Reopen BlocTime.
A session I added isn't in my calendar
Check which calendar it landed in — iOS writes to your default calendar, which may be hidden in the Calendar app's list. Set your preferred default under Settings → Apps → Calendar → Default Calendar.
I'd rather not give calendar access
Decline it. You lose scheduling suggestions only — blocking, music, stats, and the planner all work without it, and you can start a session manually any time.
Focus music
No sound during a session
- Check the silent switch on the side of your iPhone and the volume while the session is running.
- Allow media access under
Settings → Privacy & Security → Media & Apple Music → BlocTime. - Confirm the track is downloaded, not streaming-only, if you're offline.
- Check AirPlay or Bluetooth isn't sending audio to another device.
My playlist doesn't appear in the list
BlocTime reads your local library and Apple Music. Playlists from other streaming services aren't available to third-party apps. Open Music, download the playlist to your device, then reopen BlocTime.
The music is shorter than my session
The list shows each option's length next to your session length so you can see the gap — a 4-minute track under a 25-minute bloc will end early. Pick a longer playlist, or start the session without music.
Sessions and stats
A session didn't get logged
Sessions record when they end normally. Force-quitting BlocTime mid-session, restarting the phone, or letting the battery die can leave one incomplete. It won't count toward your streak, and we can't add it after the fact.
I didn't get the session-end notification
- Allow notifications under
Settings → Apps → BlocTime → Notifications. - Check whether a Focus mode is filtering them:
Settings → Focus→ your active mode → Apps. - Turn off Scheduled Summary for BlocTime so alerts arrive immediately.
Can I move my history to a new iPhone?
Yes, through an iCloud or encrypted computer backup — transfer to the new device carries BlocTime's data with it. Installing fresh from the App Store starts you at zero, since we hold nothing on our end.
Subscription and billing
Apple handles all BlocTime payments. That means some of this you do in Settings rather than in the app.
How do I cancel?
- Open
Settingsand tap your name at the top. - Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap BlocTime, then Cancel Subscription.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge. You keep access until the period you've paid for runs out. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription.
I want to cancel the free trial
Same steps as above, at least 24 hours before the trial's third day ends. You keep full access through the last trial day and you aren't charged.
I paid but the features are locked
- Open BlocTime → Settings → Restore Purchases.
- Confirm you're signed in with the Apple ID you bought it on:
Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases. - Check
Settings → [your name] → Subscriptionsto see whether it's listed as active.
Still locked? Email us your Apple receipt — the order number is enough, and no payment details are needed.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are Apple's to grant, not ours. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with your Apple ID and pick the BlocTime purchase. Write to us anyway if something in the app went wrong — we'd rather fix it, and we'll back up your request where we can.
Can I switch plans?
Yes. In Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → BlocTime, pick a different plan. Upgrades usually take effect immediately with a prorated credit from Apple; downgrades start at your next renewal. Pricing is listed in the Terms of Service.
Privacy and data
Can BlocTime see which apps I block?
No. Apple hands your selections to us as opaque tokens only iOS can read. We don't receive app names, and we can't see your usage, browsing, or notifications.
How do I delete everything?
Open BlocTime → Settings → Reset All Data, or delete the app to remove all of it at once. Deletion is immediate and permanent; we hold no copy. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no email, and no password. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, which is why restoring purchases needs the same Apple ID you bought on.
